DIRECTING MASTERCLASS WITH
DIRECTOR RADU JUDE

What is it to think in terms of directing for fiction? How do you interpret a narrative tex? How do you think of the mis-en-scene in cinema? How do you work with actors? How do you work with the camera? How do you edit a scene?

All these questions, along many others, will find their answer throughout the Directing Masterclass organized by Control N.

Director Radu Jude aims for an interactive masterclass, in which participants are invited to bring their own ideas and options, to ask their own questions as a director and find their own answers.

The masterclass has a strong practical side. The participants will be part of several directing exercises.

RADU JUDE

Born in 1977, Radu Jude graduated from Media University in Bucharest in 2003. He has worked as an assistant director for a while.
He has directed the short films “Tube with a Hat” (2006) – winner of over 30 international awards in Sundance, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Uppsala etc – “Alexandra” (2007) – selected in Cleremont-Ferrand and awarded in Oberhausen – and over 150 commercial films.
In 2009 he completed his first feature film “The Happiest Girl in the world” selected in the Berlinale Forum 2009 (CICAE Award) and festivals like Toronto, New York, Thessalonik, Sarajevo and London, among 50 others. The film was distributed in France, UK, Austria and Spain.
He produced and directed the independent film “Film for friends” in 2011.
He directed the feature film “Everybody in our Family” (2012) which premiered in the Berlinale Forum, received the Grand Prix in Sarajevo, was selected in London Film Festival and was distributed, among others, in Holland and Hungary.
His short film “Shadow of a Cloud” (2013) was selected in Quinzaine des Realisateurs of the Cannes Film Festival.
His short film “It Goes Through the Wall” (2014) received the Special Jury Mention in Cannes’s Quinzaine des Realisateurs in 2014.
His third feature film, “Aferim!” received the Silver Bear for Best Director in Berlinale.
Al treilea film de lung metraj al regizorului, “Aferim! ” a primit Ursul de Argint pentru cea mai bună regie la Festivalul de film de la Berlin.

Presently, Radu Jude is in pre-production with his feature film “Scarred Hearts” an adaptation of Max Blecher’s novel.

The three meetings of the masterclass will take place on April 2,April 9 and April 16, 2015 .
